Ciego de Avila Creates Farms to Protects Soils
A work to improve impoverish soils is implemented at La Carolina Hill in Ciego de Avila, the central Cuban province, by workers of the local center devoted to preserve the soils.
The aim is to implement a comprehensive system of technologies into a small size to preserve and enrich this resource, along with water and forests.
Osmany Mena Martín, main expert on soil management in the territory, said that less than the 40 percent of the agricultural areas in Ciego de Avila are affected by erosion, poor drainage, low organic matter content and poor fertility.
Therefore, he said, the small surface will be a reference for the rest of the province for the sustainable use of land.
